Magnetic Letters Spelling Sensory Bin

February 16, 2016 By Thaleia 5 Comments

Today I want to share with you a fun Magnetic Letters Spelling Sensory Bin . We just so happen to have tons of magnetic letters, a magnetic wand, and a tray that is magnetic as well. I actually have a plastic tub on my back porch labeled Alphabet which houses  a dozen different letter materials including foam letters, eraser letters, red and blue letters, Braille letters, and flashcards with simple Spelling words.

I grabbed a small plastic tub and added some brown crinkle paper as the filler. Then I placed in one set of magentic letters and added a red Magnetic Wands. I placed the bin on the table along with a metal tray.

As soon as I set the activity up I was swarmed by both Big Red who is almost 6 and Lil’ Red who is almost 2 1/2! Both enjoyed this activity at their own skill levels. Lil’ Red is learning to recognize his alphabet letters while Big Red is learning to spell simple words.

Lil’ Red really enjoyed just lifting all the magnetic letters out of the tub with the magnet wand. I quickly realized that Lil’ Red would need his own metal tray!

Big Red liked building words after he found the correct letters that matched the flashcard. I helped Big Red sound out the words if he didn’t know what it was or couldn’t discern from the flashcard picture.
