Lake Loramie State Park #30Places30Days

May 20, 2017 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Can you believe that we have lived within 25 minutes of Lake Loramie State Park beach and have never been to the beach? My husband has been to Lake Loramie State Park with an uncle to fish and never even saw the beach. We even camped at the camp ground when Big Red was 13 months old! I am so glad that the #30Places30Days local travel challenge has gotten us to explore fun things to do in and around our county!Lake Loramie State Park walking to beach

We headed off to Lake Loramie State Park to check out the beach. The weather was over 80 degrees but we weren’t sure if it would be “open” or if the beach area would be fenced off and closed. To our surprise and the children’s dismay the beach was open and not fenced and accessible year round!

We didn’t bring swimsuits so the kids could only wade in the water. We did bring extra clothes in case we went creek stomping but realized we hadn’t packed any beach towels!

The beach is located right near a large grassy area that offers a couple of picnic tables and a few large trees that provide some shade!

Lake Loramie State Park Campground

After letting the kids splash around on the beach and play in the sand for a little bit we headed to the Lake Loramie State Park Campground. I had seen a Nature Center labeled on the map that I had printed at home from the State Parks website. While we drove back to find the Nature Center we found the main playground in the Campground.

Everyone had fun playing on the playground equipment. They had some things we had never seen before which made it even more fun. We also discovered that the Nature Center also houses the Lake Loramie Heritage Museum which are only open on the weekends. We will definitely be back to the beach this Summer and may even convince everyone to try camping over night!
