Kid Friendly Things to Do on Kelley’s Island, Ohio

August 18, 2017 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post of Kelley’s Island and Portside Marina as part of our #LakeErieLove blog tour through Lake Erie Shores and Islands. All opinions are our own.

Heading off to an island for the day is quite the adventure for a family of 4 children. Given our research and our day on Kelley’s Island I thought it would be good to share kid friendly things to do on Kelley’s Island.

If you ride the Miller Ferry and bring your vehicle then you will be able to drive around the island. If you ride the Jet Express then you will want to rent a golf cart or bicycles to tour the island.

We were provided a golf cart from Portside Marina to travel around the island. Lil’ Red and Princess enjoyed our time on the golf cart and the grins on their faces show just how much!Lil' Red and Princess Golf cart

Herndon Art Gallery on Kelley’s Island (free)

We did some basic research before we left home and so glad that I did. I found Herndon gallery listed on the list of things to do on Kelley’s island and since Eldest has been very interested in art I wanted to be sure we stopped.

We pulled up to the gallery which is both outdoors and indoors. We saw large metal artwork placed all over the property as well as some large rock pieces.

The indoor gallery requires you to be barefoot or sock footed. My children thought this was odd but quickly obliged in order to not miss anything that mom and dad were set off to explore. We were watching our children so closely that we forgot to take many pictures. I would love to go back and take a few more pictures or have more time to explore.

Glacial Grooves Ohio History Connection (free)

We had heard about the Glacial Grooves from some friends who had visited Kelley’s Island a few years ago and wanted to be sure we made a quick visit.

We only stayed long enough to walk the path around the fenced area because the heat and sun were beginning to become scorching! I would recommend visiting this early in the day or in Spring or Fall when temps are cooler!
