While it’s only March, many Summer camps and activities have early registration times. If you have multiple children interested in Summer camps then you will want to find out what your options are as early as possible. There’s nothing like the sinking feeling of finding the perfect program for one of your children to discover it conflicts with another program. I am going to share how I go about finding Summer Camps and activities as well as how I decide what to register my children for.
Check out your local library for Summer Reading Club schedule.
Since we enjoy multiple library systems Summer Reading Club programs,I try to get each locations program schedule as soon as possible. Unfortunately this may not happen until mid May even with a call or message sent via Facebook. I usually tell the location I contact that the sooner I can get the schedule the sooner I can promote their programs to 5-7 local homeschool Facebook groups.
Look for nature programs at your local park district.
We live surrounded by a few county’s with awesome family programs. One of those park districts emailed me the Spring and Summer activities schedule the last week in February which means their programs will go on our calendar first. The awesome this is most of them are free!
Read about programs and activities through city and community centers.
While our town offers nothing, the town north of us and the two south of us offer a variety of programs. I have seen arts and crafts programs, digital photography, basketball camp and even free swim lessons.
Remember museums and Science centers for Summer Camps and programs.
Many facilities in larger cities offer multiple weeks of programs with a different theme each week. These are usually well-known, have a fee and sell out early. Do your homework now before registration opens.
Cinemas offer Free or discounted Summer Movies for kids.
Many movie theaters across the country offer free or discounted movies for families. I usually research all of the programs even those not near me in case we travel and need something cheap to do!
Learn about national sports programs offered in your area.
Some areas across the country are fortunate enough to have nationally and internationally recognized programs offered during the Summer. I have hears about dance and theater intensives along with sports camps.
Big Red begged to play soccer in the Fall but it was 3-4 months past registration. So he’s only been able to learn some basic soccer skills during homeschool gym. Just last week he asked about soccer again about the time I opened my email to read about a blog opp for soccer camp. Bingo! Perfect timing since he’s still showing interest in soccer.
