Small Mammals Montessori Inspired 3 Part Cards #NatureBookClub

February 1, 2018 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

I created this set of Montessori Inspired 3 part cards for small mammals since February’s theme for Nature Book Club is small mammals. I decided to pick 6 small mammals that the other co-host will be sharing in their posts on February 20! I am hoping that this free printable will be a nice resource as you study small mammals this month.

When I first began thinking about what small mammal we would learn about chipmunks and squirrels were the first to come to mind. Then when I asked our Nature Book Club co-hosts what animals they were studying they said bat and meerkat. I had totally forgotten that a bat was a mammal until it was mentioned- oops!

Many animals could be considered a small mammal but I narrowed it down to six so that toddlers and preschoolers could use these cards easily. Older students can use these cards to describe similarities and differences between the animals.

Simple Valentine’s Day Party Game Ideas

January 28, 2018 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Are you looking for a few simple Valentine’s Day Party games for younger children? I love to create party game ideas that are fun and a little educational as well. My youngest is 4 years old and is looking forward to our homeschool groups Valentine’s Day party. Since we will be participating in the event we were also asked to provide an activity or party game.

Heart Shaped Fine Motor Party Game

Heart Shaped Fine Motor Party Game

For this first party game you will need a few simple supplies:

tray or flat cookie sheet

tweezers, tongs or spoon

heart-shaped containers

Welch’s fruit snacks

Place the tray on the table and lay the heart-shaped containers on the tray. Open up 3-5 bags of fruit snacks and empty into one of the heart-shaped containers. Allow children to take turns trying to transfer the fruit snacks from one heart to another. If you have older children you can use a timer to make it more challenging.

Ways to Organize Special Medical Documents

January 17, 2018 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Going through a recent “battle” with insurance to get my son’s Dexcom Transmitter made me realize that I need a better way to organize special medical documents! You see we had a PA ( prior authorization) with a medical supply company that will no longer supply any Dexcom items for Eldest. The insurance said the medical supply company is supposed to honor the PA like a contract but they won’t.

Ways to Organize Special Medical Documents

I have been battling for almost two months to find a new medical supplier and now waiting for a PA from insurance. It’s been a tough two months for Eldest battling ketones and blood glucose levels higher and lower than normal. Riley has had some rough nights having to set extra alarms to check to be sure Eldest’s BG’s don’t suddenly plummet. If they are low for bedtime then carbs must be administered and another alarm set which means another finger prick-poo!

Reindeer Tic Tac Toe

December 7, 2017 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Since it’s December and almost Christmas I thought a fun activity would be to create a Tic Tac Toe game. I sent my younger boys outside to collect some sticks in order to made a nature Tic Tac Toe board. Once the sticks were brought in I tied them together with some string that we had.

Stick Tic Tac Toe

I was having a hard time getting the sticks to stay still so Princess offered to help me get the string tied securely. Then she used a lighter to burn the ends after tying knots at each crosspoint.

wooden reindeer

Last year I picked up a cute pack of wooden reindeer from Target on clearance that I held back for this year. I wanted the boys to have some fun materials for this season so I just opened the wooden reindeer this week for the Reindeer Preschool Printable Pack and for this Tic Tac Toe game.

Reindeer Tic Tac Toe

My kids enjoy a simple game of Tic Tac Toe and all it’s competitiveness that it brings out. I love seeing my children have something fun and simple that they can do together. So if you are looking for a quick way to entertain your children this Holiday Season then make a Tic Tac Toe board and use some small objects for your game pieces. You could use small cookie cutters, tiny ornaments or LEGO minifigures…

Do your children enjoy simple games like Tic Tac Toe? Maybe they would enjoy a good game of marbles or jacks!
