Free Handwriting, Copywork, and Writing Resources

May 8, 2013 By Thaleia 4 Comments

While public schools across the country are dropping Handwriting it is still very much a part of a homeschoolers curriculum. It has come to my attention that Handwriting can become a costly endeavor for families. The choices are astounding and it seems that a new program pops up every 3-5 years or so. What does a family on a budget do?

Upcycled Realtor Sign turned Magnet Board

Upcycled Realtor Sign turned Magnet Board

(There are affiliate links to Amazon in this post. Making a purchase from this link helps support this website. Thank You!)

What child doesn’t like to play with magnets? What parents wants to spend a fortune on an outside magnet board? That’s where this recycled or upcycled realtor sign comes in!

Last Fall I had contacted our realtor to see if he had any old signs just lying around that I could have to help our local Art School advertise. He only had one A-frame or Tent free standing sign, but he also gave me not one but two staked Open House METAL signs. Those signs have been on my porch since last Fall while I tried to figure out what to do with them.

Eureka! I finally figured out how much fun they would be turned into signs for my children’s to use. I knew I wanted to put one next to the playhouse as a restaurant sign, menu board, school board, or whatever they could come up with. Since I own plastic magnetic shapes already and black enamel spray paint I was in business!

I set about scraping the old stickers off the sign and using Goo Gone to get the gunk and stickiness off. I had to resort to vegetable spray to get all the old tape adhesive off but it was well worth it in the end! Princess decided to help with the 2nd sign that needed to be scraped and cleaned.

I made sure to wash the sign front and back and allow to dry completely.

Then I spray painted one side including the legs! I allowed it to dry for 2 hours and then brought it inside over night. The next day I sprayed the other side. (I brought it inside in order to cool and be sure it didn’t get tacky from the sun.)

What else could you do with an old Realtor’s sign?

Chalkboard- paint with chalkboard paint (affiliate link) and attach a cup to hold the chalk.

Art Easel- attach bulldog clips (affiliate link) to the top and allow children to paint outdoors.

What items have you been saving for just the right project?

Introducing the Sugar ‘n Spice VoxBox

Introducing the Sugar ‘n Spice VoxBox

sugar n spice voxbox

What’s a VoxBox?

It’s a reward you might get for being a great Influenster. Too vague? OK fine, it’s a box filled to the brim with the hottest products that interest you. Paying attention now?

Here’s how it works: Influensters are selected for FREE themed product shipments based on the Expert Badges they have unlocked and based on individual demographics. This ensures members receive products that match their interests.

Members with high scores — within the specific badge we are targeting at the time — are prioritized, which is all the more reason to get your Influenster and Expert Badge scores high.

Are all VoxBoxes the same?

Every VoxBox shipment has a different theme designed for each specific program. Some programs include bonus products that only a few members receive. These lucky members are selected based on Expert Badges, demographics, and past program performance. So if you’re selected to participate, be sure to keep up your good activity to qualify for future programs and bonus products.

How often does Influenster send out these so-called VoxBoxes?

Influenster sends out multiple syndicated VoxBoxes featuring various brands every month. We occasionally send custom VoxBoxes as well, featuring only one special product. You’ll increase your chances of being selected for both types of boxes by maintaining high Influenster and Expert Badge scores.

What I Recieved in this Sugar ‘N Spice VoxBox:

belVita Breakfast Biscuits
Colgate® Optic White®- toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouth rinse
Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel oil controlling towelettes
Splenda NECTRESSE™
Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer

A great variety of products to try and even some coupons to share with friends! I will be reviewing some of these products via facebook and twitter as well as possibly another blog post! So stay tuned to see what these products are like.

Disclaimer: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
