DIY Raised Garden Beds with Pallets

June 1, 2015 By Thaleia

We have seen all sorts of ideas all over the internet and on pinterest using pallets. Since I want to expand our garden and just learned that raised garden beds offer double the yield of a normal row garden I really wanted to put our pallet raised garden beds to use. A month of so ago some of our potatoes from the grocery began to grow. I decided to plant them in a large pot to see if they would continue to sprout and grow. They did.

I was really lazy and placed the entire potato with multiple eyes sprouting without dividing it up first. It worked out really well to pull the plants apart at the base of the stalks just above ground. Summer Activities for Teens and We Love Weekends

May 29, 2015 By Thaleia 7 Comments

While talking with a few other homeschool mom’s at Field Day, I discovered the LACK of Summer activities for kids over 12 years of age in my geographic area. There are plenty of art camps, nature camps, VBS, day camp opportunities for children ages 4-12, but hardly anything for older kids.
Summer Activities for Teens

Not really sure what the reasoning is besides that fact that public school kids have Football, Cheer, or Band Camp. But what if your child has no interest in those things? What will your teen do all Summer?  Summer activities for teens are pretty hard to find in our area unless you have money or send them away to camp. With that being said I racked my brain for some frugal ideas that I list below. I also wrote a post entirely dedicated to Ways Teens Can Earn Money. Be sure to check that out as well!

Keep your Tween or Teen Busy this #Summer with these ideas!

Impromptu Overnight Getaway and We Love Weekends

May 22, 2015 By Thaleia

I will have to admit I was ecstatic when I checked our bank account to find our tax return money. It just so happened to be a Friday that hubby had taken a vacation day for a homeschool event. We ended up skipping that event to take a quick 24 hour overnight getaway.

Impromptu Getaway

We headed through Wendy’s Drive thru and were on our way! Of course we were down the road just 10 minutes when a potty break was called which led to Beanie Boo’s! My niece first introduced us to Beanie Boos a couple of years ago but usually they are $10-$12 a piece. This Circle K Filling Station had them for $4.99 each. So we let each kid pick one out. Eldest heard Princess debating on which one to get and she narrowed it down to 2. He picked one of her choices so she could get the ones she wanted. Such a sweet big brother!
