Camera Lens Flower STEM Project

May 18, 2016 By Thaleia 1 Comment

Sometimes the only way to get my kids outdoors during the day when all the school kids are in public school is with a little tech! I love nature the most in our house but love to share new gadgets with my children to encourage them to go outdoors.

Camera Lens Flower STEM project

We recently had a chance to review a camera lens kit for cell phones from Amazon. We have had our eye on a product like this for a few years but wanted to wait till we upgraded our phones which we did. Adding a camera lens to your cell phone allows for extra fun and function!

Fishbowl Camera Lens:

This lens sort of worked but not as well as I had hoped. I think the camera lens needed to be smaller or farther away from the phone lens.

Macro Camera Lens:

I have always wanted a way to take some up close pictures of things in nature. I would have loved to have a macro camera lens last year when our Praying Mantis egg sack hatched!

Eldest had to put the phone almost on the flower in order to get a picture that was clear in the macro lens mode. I love how the picture below turned out. You can really see the beard and crest of this Purple Iris.

Wide Angle Camera Lens:

The directions that came with our phone camera lens said to keep the Macro and Wide Angle lens on together which created an unusual look!

I am not sure if I like the effect that both lens gives the picture but with more time we might come up with something great!

Regular Phone Camera Lens:

I thought we should share a picture with just the regular phone camera as a reference.

Oh my! Looks fantastic! These camera lenses would definitely take smartphone photography to the next level. I assume, they are probably designed to work with multiple models, but I can’t wait to find out, if they are compatible with my phone! What a great find!
