Being Prepared for Summer

Summer is here and it’s time to get our Summer gear ready! I love to get out and go play with friends on a weekly basis along with heading almost daily to the library for Summer Reading Club. I want to give my children both memories and socialization during the warm sunny days of Summer.

How do you PREPARE for #SUMMER? Tips & tricks our Family uses! #summerbucketlist

How have we prepared for Summer? We check that our zippered flower park bag is filled with fun toys to take to the park. In this bag we make sure that we have frisbees, bubble wands, plastic horse shoes, and a few balls to kick and play with.

We make sure that our snack bag is loaded with healthy snacks that won’t go bad in the Summer heat. Simple things like jerky, peanut butter, pretzel sticks, dried fruit, nuts and plenty of water bottles are kept in our car snack bag. We grab perishable items on our way out the door like fruit cups, applesauce, cheese sticks, and ice water.

Next we double check that our children have proper fitting Summer apparel since they grow so fast from season to season! They might not like trying on a dozen pairs of shorts, swimsuits, and a few pairs of water shoes and play shoes but mom insists! I feel that it’s best to check sizes of shoes and clothes early in the season in order to find needed items at garage sales.

Then it’s time to scour the house for hats to keep those precious heads safe from sunburn. Some years we have plenty of hats to fit each family member but again each year hats no longer fit with the growth that each child goes through from season to season. Some members like wearing hats and some prefer sun visors and some prefer ball caps while others prefer bucket hats.

Last but not least it’s time to check for at least one pair of sunglasses for each family member. Bright Summer days call for sunglasses almost daily. We know the importance of protecting all of our eyes from the harsh rays of the sun. Since both Riley and I wear prescription glasses we need them to see while driving and reading. Once we reach our destination whether it is a beach, pool, park or playground being able to see our children in a crowd is paramount. Being able to spot our children at a distance helps set our mind at ease in crowded places like a water park or amusement park.

Riley, Eldest, Princess and I got our eye exams to be sure that our eyes were healthy and to get the most updated prescriptions. Eldest and Princess still do not need glasses although at one time Princess did have them but quit wearing them when she said she could see better without them! Riley and I had some slight updates which meant new glasses for us. Our current insurance only covers very basic frames and lenses so getting updated sunglasses is a priority for our Summer fun.

We were contacted by DiscountGlasses.com and asked to give them a try for our new prescriptions. The prices and selection that we found online for both prescription and regular sunglasses made me very happy. Each child picked out a pair of sunglasses that suited their taste best.

Princess and Eldest both chose Aviator style of sunglasses while Big Red picked Zoobug Square in Brilliant Yellow and Lil’ Red picked Weezers Camo sunglasses. Princess lovers her Angel Cece in Soft Pink which she wears while walking a dog or heading out to play at a park or beach.

Eldest wears his Anarchy Fugitive sunglasses daily when we leave the house for fun Summer activities! I got a pair of prescription glasses called Lunettos Sara and feel like a movie star when wearing them!

Everyone got a pair of sunglasses except Riley as his prescription requires equipment that isn’t in the DiscountGlasses.com lab just yet but will be later this year! I cannot believe that Summer is flying by so fast and that Back to School time is near!

I could use Prescription Sunglasses as well I am sure. Especially if they would help me see far away. Although at this time I always end up just getting ones at the store near me. As I am so bad about laying them down and walking off and leaving them. So its time to invest in new Sunglasses for my family and to purchase ones we can use at all times and would protect our eyes so I will check out discountglasses.com as I know we can use new Sunglasses and so can several of my friends.

I’m with your kids, it isn’t fun trying on clothes, hats, shoes, and swimsuits. But it’s worth it when you can go all summer and have every item you need without having to make several clothes shopping trips!
